Māori has 11 pronouns that are used to represent different people. Today we are looking at adding how to address two people.

You already know:

au/ahau- I/me

koe- you

ia – he/she

In addition to this we have:

Singular Pronouns (1 person) Dual Pronouns (2 people)
au/ahau– I/me tāua– Me and you
koe– you māua– Me and my friend (but not you)
ia- he/she kōrua– You two (but not me)
Koe ia – He/She you rāua– Those two (randoms)

Here is a quick video with some actions that help us to learn and remember these.

When you are listing more than one name, we use these dual pronouns and ‘rāua ko’ to join them.

e.g Ko Hemi rāua ko Ngahuia ngā ingoa kōrua.

  • You two are Hemi and Ngahuia.

Kei te oma māua ko Hemi.

  • Me and Hemi are running.

Using this knowledge, translate the following:

Ko wai rāua? Who are they?
Ko wai kōrua? Who are you?
Ko Aroha rāua ko Ariki. Aroha and ariki
Ko Maia rāua ko Mana. Mia and Mana
Niko and Amaia. Niko raua Ko amaia
Who are those two? Ko wai enei tokorua
Who is this and me? Ko wai tenei me ahau
Ihaka and Kara.  Isaac and kara

Why we play games in drama

The purpose of this game is to focus on your roll like say if someone makes a joke you don’t laugh so the audience can enjoy the joke like its not funny if someone laughs at their own jokes its not funny so the aim of the game is to keep in character its very hard to be a actor because some people spend 8 hours applying makeup just to spend 4 hours working the game helps you keep focused and keep to the script and if someone goes of script they can recover from the wrong move.

Matariki

Matariki is the name of a cluster of 9 stars they are could the seven sisters. The first on is waiti, waita, waiponarongi, tupanuku, tupunarangi, uranrangi, matariki, pohutukawa and another.

People share food  and at dawn they wake up at 3-5 to see the stars align as known as a constellation. Then they celebrate with a feast they have food that they cook under the ground and the stars were created by the sky father. He ripped out his eyes and crushed it to make the matariki

There many other myths about matariki and  some people have different traditions.

Haiku history

In the 17th century haikus were created they are poems about the four seasons summer, autumn, winter and spring. Its origins originate from the edo period of Japan where the economy was thriving. People started doing haikus to put their emotions into words. They used hiragana and katakana to write the poem. The format for this is 5 syllables 7 syllables and 5 syllables.

This is a poem I made about autumn.

Week 7 reflection

My highlight of the week was ripper rugby there was two teams Ethan’s team vs my team. Ethan won because he plays rugby the score was 5-3.

One thing that challenged me was the maths because we had to draw these little houses  and design it and i’m not the best at drawing.

I was not able to control  it because I can not draw at all.

My goal for next week is to win at rugby
